Seedance 1.0: the foundation, in two sizes

ByteDance launched Seedance 1.0 in June 2025 as two models rather than one. That split has defined the family ever since.

Seedance 1.0 Pro makes 1080p video from two to twelve seconds at 24 frames per second, with multi-shot narrative and cinematic aesthetics. Its selling points were consistency and motion: better face retention across the first and last frames, a wider and more natural range of movement, and pacing that does not just stop dead at the end.

Seedance 1.0 Lite is the distilled version. It trades the Pro model's ceiling for speed and cost, producing five and ten second clips at 720p with multi-angle camera control. The point of Lite is throughput. If your product spits out thousands of short clips a day, cost per clip and latency matter more than the last increment of quality, and Lite is built for exactly that.

That two-tier structure, a quality flagship next to an efficient workhorse, is worth understanding on its own. It is how most serious generation models now ship.

Seedance 2.0: sound arrives

The jump to Seedance 2.0 on 10 February 2026 was the one that mattered. Version 1.0 was silent. Version 2.0 introduced native audio-video generation, meaning the model creates the soundtrack, speech, effects, and ambience, at the same time as the picture, rather than leaving you to dub it afterward.

That single change pulls a whole category of work in-house. Add multi-language lip-sync, and the model can put words in a character's mouth that match the motion of the lips. Version 2.0 also tightened multi-shot character consistency, so a subject survives the cuts between shots, and it opened up true multimodal input: text, image, audio, and video, all at once. Clip length grew to roughly fifteen seconds.

The theme of 2.0 is absorption. What used to need a separate audio stack and a separate lip-sync tool became one model producing a finished, sounded clip.

Seedance 2.5: length and control

Seedance 2.5 shipped on 31 July 2026 and pushed on the two limits that remained: length and precision.

It makes a full thirty-second story in a single pass, picture and sound together, with the option to extend for longer narratives. Thirty seconds in one generation is a real line to cross. It is long enough to carry a complete idea, a short ad, a scene, an explainer beat, without stitching clips together.

Control improved just as much. Version 2.5 accepts up to fifty multimodal references as input, so you steer the output with a large set of examples instead of a single prompt. It adds local editing, letting you change one region of a scene to fix a detail without regenerating the whole thing. That is the difference between a tool you fight and one you can actually iterate on. White-model control, green-screen output, professional camera movement, and performance blocking finish the picture, all aimed at real production.

What the trajectory tells you

Line the three up and the direction is obvious. Length went from a two-to-twelve second ceiling to thirty seconds in one pass. Audio went from absent to natively generated with lip-sync. Control went from a text prompt to fifty references plus region-level editing. In eighteen months the model moved from raw clips to directed, sounded, editable scenes.

Two patterns are worth naming. Capabilities that used to need separate tools, audio, lip-sync, editing, keep getting folded into the base model. And the releases increasingly target production rather than demos. Green-screen output and camera control are things you add when real teams ship with the tool.
